In the world of vaping, box mods are the cats meow. A step up from a standard electronic cigarette, box mods provide a versatile platform to build a choice vape engine. With larger designs and more power, mods never fail to deliver abundant clouds of vapor. When you’re ready to step up your vape game, check out what I have learned about box mods in the past few years.
Vape box mods literally come in all shapes and sizes. The two main differences are mechanical and regulated.
Mechanical mods can be homemade, and consist of only the necessary parts to fire the coil. Generally a mechanical mod is simply a battery, a fire button, and a housing to mount the atomizer. A mechanical mod design does not have safety features, so your will need to test atomizer ohms before firing. This design isn’t used much anymore simply because regulated mods are better and abundant.
A much safer option is the regulated box mod, the most widely used design. This type of box mod contains a circuit board to regulate the current, and adjust the voltage or wattage to your liking. A regulated mod has many safety features such as short circuit protection, overheat, and low battery to name a few.
I prefer to use a regulated mod set at sixty-five watts. Click here for the best mods on the market today.
Vape mods surprise me every day with their innovative, ever evolving designs. From firing buttons, to battery compartment doors, all aspects of vape mods vary from different manufacturers. It’s good to try different models out to see what is comfortable for you.
Vape mods can have one to four batteries. Having more batteries extends the discharge time and
preserves battery life. These mods can range from fifty to three hundred watts. Mods can be constructed from plastic and or metal. Mods can also be shockproof and water resistant, and decorated in almost every color.
The newer style is called a squonk mod. This type of vape box mod has a squonk bottle built into it. The squonk bottle, given the appropriate atomizer, can be squeezed to fill the atomizer. This gives the user the ability to, not only have more juice on hand, but a larger atomizer deck to build on. Regulated vape mods can be switched from temperature control to power control. Temperature control can only be used If an atomized is equipped with nickel coils. This will allow your to dial in vape clouds to an exact temperature as opposed to wattage.
I use a twin battery squonk mod, that is very convenient, and rips huge clouds.
Atomizers come in two general types, the kind your build yourself and pre-built. Within these two types exist many styles. Each style serves a different function, depending on the cloud chasing route your are taking.
Within the pre – built section your will find replaceable atomizers. This atomizer is ready to unscrew and screw in a new, when the coil or cotton is burnt. These replaceable atomizers have many coil configurations. You can have from one to eight or more coils, in one atomizer. You are sure to find the cloud production your need with a pre-built unit, ready to prime and go.
Within the build your own section your will find acronyms such as RDAs, RBAs, and RTAs to name a few. RDA s are rebuildable dripping atomizers. You can wind your own coils or buy wound coils, install then wick. You then drip your liquid directly through the mouth piece onto the coils, to soak the wick.
RBAs are rebuildable bottom-feed atomizers. RBAs will be used with the squonk mod, that injects the liquid from the bottle inside your squonk mod. The liquid travels through a hole in the pin to a reservoir in the atomizer.
RTAs are rebuildable tank atomizers. RTAs have the same rebuildable coils with the liquid being stored in a tank around the coils, this can limit your build space if your like dual coils.
I use a 24mm RBA with dual coils. I buy pre-made clapton style coils, and do my own wick, from 100% cotton.
Besides every flavor liquid known to man, there are lots of accessories for vape box mods, both necessary and unnecessary. It’s important to get the necessary accessories so your not left without power.
One awesome vape box mod accessory that people don’t think of is a carrying case. This keeps your mod and batteries safe if out and about, or even camping. I like these especially in Wisconsin wear I live, It rains and snows a lot. I have a twin battery squonk mod so pockets are not a good option. You want to keep dirt and other elements out of your beautiful mods and atomizers.
Some necessary items are chargers and batteries. Batteries range in a few different sizes depending on what your mod requires. Chargers can charge one to several batteries at once. A good choice is a charger with overcharge protection.
If you’re looking for style, they make interchangeable skins for some vape mods, as well as aftermarket skins. If your looking for protection, you can find silicon protective skins on amazon for almost every popular vape mod.
Interchangeable mouthpiece, or drip tip, is a cool option that can be purchased in tons of colors and different sizes.
My Set Up
After purchasing four completely different vape mods, and countless atomizer styles, I have recently found my cloud enormous of choice. I use a Rage dual 18650 squonk mod. This mod is metal, heavy and awesome, I have the brushed bronze style.
I top this vape mod with a Drop 24mm dual coil bottom feed atomizer. I use two pre-built clapton coils equaling 0.4 ohms, and set my rig to sixty-five watts. For my wicks I use organic cotton, and squonk max VG juice at six mg. This setup gives me amazing flavors and enormous vape clouds.
I have found huge variations in flavor, cloud production, coil and battery life. Choose your setup wisely and beware of knock-off brands and flimsy product design. Good luck and happy vaping.
